Since e-books hit the market, the sales of printed books dropped dramatically, and publishing houses underwent a major crisis. E-books are less expensive than paperback editions, and you can store even hundreds of titles on the same, portable device. Electronic editions are so competitive on the market, still many do prefer “real” books. Let’s try to find out why.
A Printed Book Is Forever
In reality, if we look at the numbers, real books still sell more than e-books. Here are some of the reasons why:
- According to market research, printed books are (and that reveals a certain counter-trend) the younger generations, that prefer to read (or study) on paper.
- Frequent readers usually like to keep a tangible “record” of all their books.
- Books are a must-have in every home, and each one of them tells a special story (where and when we bought it, the feelings we had while reading it, and so on)
- There’s nothing like sitting on your favourite armchair and plunge into the new release of our favourite author (without the need of charging the battery of an electronic device!)
New and Used Books
Buying a new release is a great way to support your local business, as bookstore sometimes find it hard to compete against the online marketplaces. If you are looking for a special gift, then a book is a good choice. You can even add a personal touch, writing a dedication on the inside of the book.
If you have the chance to visit a flea market or a second hand bookstore, you may find small treasures, like antique editions of your favourite novels or rare books with beautifully crafted leather covers.
